About sci-fi & fantasy shirts

Invented worlds come with invented symbols, and those symbols are what this category mostly sells. A Starfleet delta, a Rebel Alliance crest, a house sigil or the Deathly Hallows mark does not depict anyone. It signals membership of a fictional group, which is why fans wear them the way people wear a team badge, and why a small chest mark often outsells a large illustration.

The second strand is maps, runes and in-world typography — the kind of detail a fantasy series builds up over thousands of pages. These designs reward people who know the source well and mean little to anyone else, which makes them a good gift for a committed fan and a poor one for a casual viewer.

What to look for

  • A faction symbol or insignia is the safe choice for an adult fan. It is subtle, wearable, and reads as belonging rather than advertising.
  • Check which era the design comes from. Original trilogy and sequel-era Star Wars art, or classic and modern Star Trek insignia, are not interchangeable to fans.
  • Map and rune designs often use fine linework. Look for listings that are screen printed rather than heat-transferred, or the detail tends to crack.
  • Some of these series are firmly adult. A popular symbol does not make the source material suitable for children.
