Han Solo exists to puncture the film he is in. That scepticism is load-bearing: it gives the audience permission to enjoy the earnestness by having a character voice the obvious objection first. Harrison Ford is substantially responsible for the tone, having pushed against dialogue he found unplayable, and the most quoted line in the character's history was reportedly his own alteration.
