CharacterTshirts

How we work

Who writes this site, where the information comes from, and — just as importantly — what we do not do.

Who writes this

CharacterTshirts.com is written and maintained by The CharacterTshirts editorial team. We are an independent publisher, not a retailer, a brand or a rights holder, and nobody outside the team has editorial input into what appears here.

We do not currently name an individual editor, because attributing this work to one person would misrepresent how it is produced. If that changes, this page will say so and a named byline will appear on every article.

How a page gets made

  1. Every character profile is written individually from published reference material — first appearances, creator credits, production history and design sources. Nothing is generated from a template.
  2. Where a detail cannot be corroborated, the page omits it rather than guessing. Records that have not been checked against a primary source carry a visible notice.
  3. Product listings come from Amazon’s Product Advertising API, filtered so that only wearable T-shirts appear. Prices are snapshots, dated on the page, and removed once stale.
  4. The build refuses to publish a character we have nothing specific to say about, and measures how similar pages are to one another so that templated filler cannot creep in.

What we do not do

This is the part most affiliate sites leave out, so we will be direct about it.

  • We do not physically test garments. Fabric weights, print durability and shrinkage figures in our guides come from manufacturer specifications and published industry standards, not from our own laboratory or wear testing.
  • We do not receive samples from brands, and we are not sent products for review.
  • We do not rank or score products. Shelves show what Amazon currently lists for a character, not a judgement about which shirt is best.
  • Character information is compiled from secondary sources. It is intended as a reliable index, not as a substitute for the original publication.

In plain terms: we have not washed these shirts. Our guides to fabric, printing and care are compiled from manufacturer specifications and published industry standards. They are accurate to those sources and they are not the results of our own wear testing. Where you see a figure for shrinkage or fabric weight, it came from a specification sheet, not from a tape measure in our hands.

Where the character information comes from

Character profiles are compiled from published reference material: the original publications, credited creator information, production history and design documentation. We treat first appearances, creator credits and publication dates as the load-bearing facts and check them before publishing.

Every profile is a secondary source. It is intended as a reliable index and a starting point, not as a replacement for the original work. Where accuracy genuinely matters — a legal question, an academic citation — go to the primary publication. Records we have not been able to corroborate carry a visible notice on the page itself.

Character profiles are revised as new information emerges. Product listings and prices are refreshed on a rolling basis.

How this site makes money

As an Amazon Associate, CharacterTshirts.com earns from qualifying purchases. When you follow a link to Amazon and buy something, we may receive a commission. It costs you nothing and does not change your price.

It also does not influence what we cover. Characters are chosen by cultural significance, the profile is written before any shirts are attached to it, and we do not rank or score products — a shelf shows what Amazon currently lists, not our opinion of which shirt is best. We are not sent samples and we have no commercial relationship with any brand or rights holder.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, we would like to know. Email hello@charactertshirts.com with the page and the correction and we will fix it or explain why we think it is right. Substantive corrections are made to the page rather than quietly overwritten.
