Who is Darth Maul?

Darth Maul speaks only a few lines in The Phantom Menace and became its most marketable figure anyway. Concept artist Iain McCaig designed the face — red and black patterning, a crown of short horns, yellow eyes — after early sketches pushed toward something frightening enough to register in a single shot. Ray Park, a martial artist, performed the role and choreographed much of its fighting style, and the double-bladed lightsaber gave the prequels their defining image. Peter Serafinowicz supplied the voice. The character appeared to die in that film, and his later return in the animated series The Clone Wars, voiced by Sam Witwer, turned a striking design into a full character with a long arc. He also appears briefly in Solo: A Star Wars Story. For apparel, the face is the design: symmetrical, high-contrast and readable from across a room.
