Jabba the Hutt is an enormous slug-like crime lord who rules from a palace on Tatooine, and he was one of the largest puppets of his era. He is mentioned in the original Star Wars in 1977 but first appears on screen in Return of the Jedi in 1983, built by the creature team working under Stuart Freeborn and operated by several puppeteers inside the body. He speaks only Huttese, voiced by Larry Ward, with subtitles. The 1997 Special Edition of the first film added a computer-generated Jabba to a previously deleted scene, which remains one of the most debated changes to the original trilogy. On shirts he is the Star Wars villain that people wear as a joke.
