Who is Mewtwo?

Mewtwo is a genetically engineered Pokémon, created from the DNA of the rare Mew and far more powerful than its source. In the original games it waits at the end of a hidden cave as the strongest Pokémon the player can catch. Pokémon: The First Movie, released in Japan in 1998 and in the United States in 1999, gave it a voice and a grievance — a clone questioning why it exists — and opened at number one at the US box office. That film made Mewtwo the franchise's most serious character. It is a Psychic type and number 150 in the original Pokédex. Mewtwo appeared again in live action in Detective Pikachu in 2019.
