Hades

Disney's Hades is a blue-skinned god of the underworld whose hair is a flame that flares orange when he loses his temper, and who talks like a fast-moving agent closing a deal. Ron Clements and John Musker's Hercules in 1997 rewrote Greek myth freely, and turning Hades — a stern but not especially wicked figure in the ancient sources — into a scheming villain was one of the biggest changes.

Who is Hades?

Disney's Hades is a blue-skinned god of the underworld whose hair is a flame that flares orange when he loses his temper, and who talks like a fast-moving agent closing a deal. Ron Clements and John Musker's Hercules in 1997 rewrote Greek myth freely, and turning Hades — a stern but not especially wicked figure in the ancient sources — into a scheming villain was one of the biggest changes. James Woods voiced him with rapid, sarcastic delivery, and much of the character's energy comes from that performance; supervising animator Nik Ranieri shaped his constant movement. His two bumbling henchmen, Pain and Panic, give him someone to shout at. Hades has become one of the most popular Disney villains with adults, largely because he is funny.
