Who is Captain Hook?
Captain Hook is the pirate captain of Neverland, missing a hand that Peter Pan cut off and fed to a crocodile that now follows him, ticking because it also swallowed a clock. J. M. Barrie created him for the stage play Peter Pan in 1904, where the part was traditionally doubled with Mr. Darling, the children's father — a casting tradition that began with Gerald du Maurier. Disney's 1953 film kept the doubling: Hans Conried voiced both, and Frank Thomas animated Hook as a vain, comic coward. Dustin Hoffman played him in Steven Spielberg's Hook in 1991. The hook, the red coat and the plumed hat are the whole design.
