Who is Tinker Bell?

Tinker Bell started as a moving spot of light. In J. M. Barrie's stage play Peter Pan in 1904 she was a beam and the sound of bells, and audiences were asked to clap to save her life. Disney's 1953 film gave her a body: a small fairy in a green leaf dress with a blonde bun, animated by Marc Davis, who never speaks and communicates entirely through expression and a jingle. From 1954 she opened Disney's weekly television show, sprinkling pixie dust across the screen, and she became one of the company's best-known symbols. Disney later built the Disney Fairies range around her, and in 2008 she began talking, voiced by Mae Whitman in a series of films.
