Who is Remy?

Remy is a rat who wants to cook in Paris, which is about as bad a fit between character and profession as a film can invent. Jan Pinkava developed Ratatouille at Pixar, and Brad Bird took over as director and rewrote it; it was released in 2007 and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Patton Oswalt voices Remy. The film takes food seriously: the chef Thomas Keller consulted on the kitchen, and the ratatouille served in the climax follows his layered version of the dish. Remy walks upright to keep his front paws clean for cooking, a small detail that tells the audience who he is. The film's motto, that anyone can cook, is its most-printed line.
