Who is Nemo?
Nemo has a malformed fin, referred to throughout as his lucky fin, and the film is unusually careful with it: the disability is never cured, never the source of a lesson, and the actual subject is his father's fear rather than the fin itself. Andrew Stanton has said the story came from watching his own overprotectiveness with his son and disliking what he saw. The film is also responsible for a documented and unfortunate real-world effect — clownfish demand rose sharply after release, and there are accounts of children releasing pet fish into drains believing it would return them to the ocean, which is the opposite of what happens. Technically it was Pixar's hardest project to that point, because water is simultaneously transparent, reflective and in constant motion.
