Who is Isabelle?
Isabelle is a cheerful yellow Shih Tzu who works as the player's assistant in Animal Crossing. She first appeared in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, released in Japan in 2012 for the Nintendo 3DS, where the player unexpectedly becomes the town's mayor and Isabelle becomes the secretary who runs the town hall. Her Japanese name is Shizue. She is endlessly positive, a little nervous and very organised, and players quickly treated her as the heart of the game. That popularity took her well beyond Animal Crossing: she became a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in 2018, and a driver in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons in 2020 she runs the island's announcements, reading the morning news each day. Her bell-shaped hair tie, green vest and plaid skirt make an easily recognisable figure, and designs of her smiling or waving are among the most popular Animal Crossing shirts. Her twin brother, Digby, also appears in the series.
