Who is Goofy?

Goofy is a tall, loose-limbed dog in a green hat whose whole performance is falling over with total commitment. He first appeared in 1932 as a laughing audience member called Dippy Dawg, and animator Art Babbitt later built him a personality with a written character study, describing a well-meaning man whose thoughts arrive slightly too late to be useful. Pinto Colvig supplied the voice and the yell. By 1939 he had his own series, and the How to... shorts of the 1940s — How to Ride a Horse, How to Play Football — cast him as a hopeless demonstrator in a parody of instructional films. A second wave came in the 1990s: Goof Troop gave him a son, Max, and A Goofy Movie in 1995 found an audience that has treated it as a cult film ever since. Bill Farmer has voiced him since 1987.
