Storm

Storm arrived in 1975 as part of the international X-Men relaunch and quickly became something the roster had not previously contained: a Black woman in a leadership position in a flagship Marvel book, and eventually the team's field leader. Her background is deliberately layered — Kenyan and American parentage, orphaned in Cairo, a childhood as a thief, then years worshipped as a weather goddess in the Serengeti before Charles Xavier recruits her.

Who is Storm?

Storm arrived in 1975 as part of the international X-Men relaunch and quickly became something the roster had not previously contained: a Black woman in a leadership position in a flagship Marvel book, and eventually the team's field leader. Her background is deliberately layered — Kenyan and American parentage, orphaned in Cairo, a childhood as a thief, then years worshipped as a weather goddess in the Serengeti before Charles Xavier recruits her. That last detail matters, because it means she joins the X-Men having already been treated as divine, and the stories that work best deal with what it costs her to be ordinary. She is also claustrophobic, which for a character with dominion over the sky is a well-judged piece of design. Her 1980s punk redesign, with a mohawk and leathers, remains one of the most-copied looks in comics.

What Storm looks like on a shirt

Signature motif: White hair, white eyes when powered, lightning and cloud

Storm's apparel relies on portrait illustration more than emblem, because she has no badge. Lightning motifs and the white-hair silhouette do the identifying work; the mohawk-era look is a distinct and popular alternative design.

No emblem, so designs use portrait art, lightning graphics and the distinctive white-hair silhouette. The mohawk-era look sells as a separate design language and skews adult. Strong on black and deep blue garments.
