Who is Daredevil?
Matt Murdock is a blind lawyer from Hell's Kitchen whose other senses were heightened by the accident that took his sight, and Stan Lee and Bill Everett introduced him in April 1964 in a yellow-and-red costume that did not last. Wally Wood redesigned him in 1965 into the all-red suit with the interlocking double-D on the chest, and that is the version that stuck. The character's reputation, though, comes from Frank Miller, who took over the book around 1979 and turned it into a crime comic — grimy, violent and built around a lawyer who cannot fully separate his two jobs. That tone carried into the Netflix series that ran from 2015 to 2018 with Charlie Cox, widely regarded as one of the best superhero adaptations, and Cox returned for Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+ in 2025. The 2003 film with Ben Affleck is less fondly remembered. The double-D emblem is the design that sells.

The Marvel hero who proved superhero comics could be crime stories, and whose television run set a standard for adaptations.
What Daredevil looks like on a shirt
Signature motif: Dark red suit, horned cowl, interlocking double-D emblem
The double-D emblem works in one colour and at small sizes, and it reads as a mark rather than a costume. Dark red on black is the usual combination.
Double-D emblem and horned-cowl silhouettes work in one or two colours on black and charcoal. Adult and teen sizing; the television series is rated for adults.
