Who is Silver Surfer?

The Silver Surfer is a chrome figure on a surfboard who flies ahead of Galactus, the being that consumes planets. He appeared in Fantastic Four #48 in 1966, and Jack Kirby added him to the story on his own initiative; Stan Lee discovered him in the pencils and made him central. As Norrin Radd, he gave up his freedom to save his home world, and his stories became Marvel's most philosophical. Moebius drew a celebrated two-part story, Parable, with Lee in 1988. On screen he was performed by Doug Jones in 2007, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps in 2025 cast Julia Garner as a new Silver Surfer, Shalla-Bal. His apparel usually reproduces Kirby-style comic art, which suits an adult buyer.
