Who is Kakashi Hatake?
Kakashi is Naruto's teacher, and Masashi Kishimoto designed him to be read almost entirely from what is hidden. A mask covers the lower half of his face, his headband covers one eye, and the running mystery of what is underneath became one of the series' longest jokes. The covered eye is a transplanted Sharingan, which lets him copy other ninjas' techniques and gives him his nickname. He arrives late to everything, reads an adult romance novel in public, and is, when it matters, the most capable person present. That mix of laziness and competence made him a fan favourite quickly: he has repeatedly finished ahead of the title character in the series' official popularity polls. Kazuhiko Inoue voices him in Japanese and Dave Wittenberg in English. Later in the story he becomes the Sixth Hokage, the village leader. Most shirts rely on the silver hair, the mask and the slanted headband, which together read as him from a distance.
