Who is Judy Hopps?

Zootopia was restructured very late. For most of its development the film belonged to the fox, and the story was about a city that fitted every animal with a shock collar; test audiences found it bleak and the point unreachable, so the studio moved the point of view to the rabbit and rebuilt around her. That change is the reason the finished film works, because a newcomer arriving in a city she has idealised can discover its prejudice alongside the audience, where a cynical native could only explain it. Technically the film is a fur problem — a cast of mammals at wildly different scales, each with millions of individually simulated hairs, in a city whose districts had to be built to several different sizes at once. It won Best Animated Feature, and a sequel followed in 2025.

Why Judy Hopps endures

The character a finished film was rebuilt around, and proof that the outsider's viewpoint is what makes a story about prejudice legible.

What Judy Hopps looks like on a shirt

Signature motif: Grey rabbit in a navy ZPD uniform with a badge and violet eyes

The ZPD badge on its own is the useful design — a piece of fictional insignia that behaves like a real one, prints in two colours, and needs no character on the shirt to be understood by anyone who has seen the film.

ZPD badge and Zootopia transit-map designs carry adult sizing. Character prints belong in youth and toddler. Navy and heather grey both work; avoid grey character art on grey fabric.
