Who is Inuyasha?

Inuyasha is a half-demon with white hair, dog ears and a red robe, living in feudal Japan. Rumiko Takahashi's manga ran in Weekly Shōnen Sunday from 1996 to 2008, and it begins when Kagome, a modern Tokyo schoolgirl, falls through a well in her family's shrine into the past and frees Inuyasha from a tree where he had been pinned by an arrow for fifty years. The two search for the shards of a shattered magical jewel, and a subduing necklace means Kagome can slam him to the ground by saying the word sit, the series' running joke. His sword, Tessaiga, is made from his father's fang. The anime, made by Sunrise, ran from 2000 to 2004 and concluded with Inuyasha: The Final Act in 2009 and 2010; its broadcast on Adult Swim from 2002 introduced it to many American viewers. Kappei Yamaguchi voices him in Japanese and Richard Ian Cox in English. A sequel series about the next generation, Yashahime, began in 2020. His dog ears are the detail every design includes, and the red robe and sword complete it.
