Itachi Uchiha

Itachi Uchiha is Sasuke's older brother, the prodigy who killed almost his entire clan in a single night and left Sasuke alive to hate him. Who is Itachi Uchiha?

Itachi Uchiha is Sasuke's older brother, the prodigy who killed almost his entire clan in a single night and left Sasuke alive to hate him. Masashi Kishimoto introduced him in 2001 as a calm, frightening member of Akatsuki, a group of rogue ninja in black cloaks patterned with red clouds, and for years he was written as the series' clearest villain. Later chapters revealed that he had carried out the massacre on the village's orders to prevent a coup, and had protected Sasuke from a distance ever since, which turned him into one of the most discussed characters in manga. His eyes carry the Mangekyō Sharingan, and his techniques include Tsukuyomi, an illusion that traps a victim in a world he controls, and Amaterasu, black flames that cannot be put out. Crows appear around him throughout the series. Hideo Ishikawa voices him in Japanese and Crispin Freeman in English. His Akatsuki cloak, the slashed forehead protector of a ninja who has abandoned his village, and his red eyes are the designs that sell, often without his name at all — fans recognise the red cloud immediately.
