Katsuki Bakugo

Katsuki Bakugo is Izuku Midoriya's childhood friend and furious rival, a naturally gifted student whose power, called a Quirk in the series, lets him set off explosions from sweat that works like nitroglycerin. Kōhei Horikoshi introduced him in the first chapter of My Hero Academia in 2014 as the bully who mocked Izuku for having no power at all and gave him the nickname Deku, meaning a useless wooden doll.

Who is Katsuki Bakugo?

Katsuki Bakugo is Izuku Midoriya's childhood friend and furious rival, a naturally gifted student whose power, called a Quirk in the series, lets him set off explosions from sweat that works like nitroglycerin. Kōhei Horikoshi introduced him in the first chapter of My Hero Academia in 2014 as the bully who mocked Izuku for having no power at all and gave him the nickname Deku, meaning a useless wooden doll. Over the series Bakugo remains loud, arrogant and fiercely competitive, but grows into a hero who recognises what he did wrong, and his relationship with Izuku is one of the story's central threads. He has regularly finished at or near the top of the series' official popularity polls. His hero name, after a long running joke about how aggressive his suggestions were, became Dynamight. Nobuhiko Okamoto voices him in Japanese and Clifford Chapin in English. His spiky blond hair, red eyes, black-and-orange costume and grenade-shaped gauntlets make one of the most recognisable designs in the series, and he is often sold alongside Deku and Todoroki. Explosion effects give his shirts more visual energy than most.
