Who is Cuphead?
Cuphead is a small cartoon cup with a straw in his head who, with his brother Mugman, loses a bet to the Devil and has to collect debts to win their souls back. Brothers Chad and Jared Moldenhauer built the game at their studio, StudioMDHR, and released it in 2017. Its look imitates American cartoons of the 1930s — rubber-hose limbs, hand-drawn frames, watercolour backgrounds — and it was drawn and inked by hand, which is part of why the game became famous before release. It is also famous for being difficult. Netflix released The Cuphead Show! in 2022, and an expansion, The Delicious Last Course, arrived the same year. The game is built around boss fights, each boss a fully animated character with several phases, and its big-band and ragtime score by Kristofer Maddigan was recorded to match the period.
