Who is Yogi Bear?

Yogi Bear lives in Jellystone Park and steals picnic baskets, which he considers a sign of intelligence. He began in 1958 as a segment of The Huckleberry Hound Show from William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, and was popular enough to get his own series in 1961. Daws Butler voiced him in a delivery often compared to Art Carney's on The Honeymooners, and the name invited comparison with the baseball player Yogi Berra. Yogi is drawn in the studio's limited-animation style — collar, tie and hat do the work, so the body barely has to move — and he is accompanied by his cautious friend Boo-Boo and pursued by Ranger Smith. His claim to be smarter than the average bear is the line most shirts use. A chain of licensed Yogi Bear campgrounds has operated in the US since 1969.
