Sizing and fit

How do US kids' T-shirt sizes convert to UK and EU sizes?

Short answer

US youth sizes run on age with a letter, UK sizing runs on age in years, and EU sizing runs on height in centimetres. Where you know the child's height, use the EU column and ignore age entirely — height is the more accurate measure and converts cleanly.

The conversions below are approximate, and they are approximate for a real reason: the three systems measure different things. American sizing assumes an average build for an age, British sizing does the same with different averages, and European sizing sidesteps the question by measuring the child.

That makes the EU column the most useful one on this page even if you are not shopping in Europe. If you know the height, you can convert to a US size with more confidence than the age columns allow.

This site quotes US sizing because it quotes amazon.com prices. Following a link from outside the United States will normally land you on your local Amazon with sizing converted for you, but the conversion is done by the retailer and is worth sanity-checking against the numbers here.
