About Power Rangers

Power Rangers is an editing trick that became a thirty-year franchise. Haim Saban licensed the Japanese Super Sentai series, kept the expensive footage — costumed fights, giant robot battles, suits that hide the actor entirely — and shot new American scenes around it with unmasked teenagers. Because the helmet never comes off during action, the two halves cut together, and because a new Sentai series airs in Japan every year, the American show has a permanent supply of new suits and new toys. It is a production model rather than a story, which is why the roster resets so often and why the property has survived being sold from Saban to Disney, back to Saban, and finally to Hasbro in 2018.

The suits come from the Japanese production; the unmasked scenes are shot in the United States and cut around them.
