PAW Patrol
PAW Patrol was built by a toy company, and the structure shows in a way that is worth understanding rather than sneering at. Spin Master designed a format in which each episode introduces a problem, a specific pup with a specific vehicle solves it, and the vehicle is a product — a loop that is transparently commercial and also, as preschool storytelling, unusually legible.
About PAW Patrol
PAW Patrol was built by a toy company, and the structure shows in a way that is worth understanding rather than sneering at. Spin Master designed a format in which each episode introduces a problem, a specific pup with a specific vehicle solves it, and the vehicle is a product — a loop that is transparently commercial and also, as preschool storytelling, unusually legible. Small children can follow a plot where one character has one job. Keith Chapman, who created it, had already done the same thing with Bob the Builder. The result has been among the best-selling preschool toy lines in the world for over a decade, and the apparel follows the toys: children choose a pup and stay loyal to it.
Creator Keith Chapman had already built the same one-character-one-job structure for Bob the Builder.
