Can you iron a printed T-shirt?
Short answer
Yes, but never directly on the print. Turn the shirt inside out and iron the reverse, or lay a thin cotton cloth over the design and iron through that. Direct contact at ironing temperature will soften and distort the ink, and on vinyl transfers it will melt the surface outright.
Ironing temperatures sit well above anything the print encountered during curing in normal use, and cured ink softens before cotton does. Pressing directly onto a design flattens its texture, can transfer ink to the iron plate, and on glossy vinyl will leave a permanently dulled or wrinkled patch.
Ironing inside out solves it completely and takes no extra effort. The heat reaches the fabric, the print never touches the plate.
Where the wrinkle is on the printed area itself and ironing the reverse has not shifted it, a pressing cloth — any thin cotton, a pillowcase works — lets you apply heat from the front without contact. Use a lower setting and keep the iron moving.
Steam is generally safe and often better than dry heat, because it relaxes the fabric at a lower plate temperature. Avoid steaming directly onto vinyl.
